Activity:
The Songkran of the northern region or so called “Pee Mai Muang” starts from the 13th April which is called “Sang Kan Long Day”,
which is believed to be the last day of the old year. On this day,
there are fireworks since it is believed to be the way of exorcising all
the bad lucks away. In the evening, there is a big merit event that
allows the people to worship the provincial Buddha statue, which is
paraded all over the city. On the 14th April or “Nao Day” is the day to avoid saying bad words to each other. On the 15th April or “Payawan Day” or “Talerngsok Day”
is the day the people usually go to make merit in the morning and ask
for the blessings from their families in the afternoon. On the 16th
April or “Pak Pee Day”, the people usually go to ask for blessings at the temples. On the 17th April or “Pak Duan Day”,
which is the last day of Songkran, the villagers usually exorcise all
the bad lucks away. This is the unique event of the northern part of
Thailand especially in Chiangmai.

- The ceremony of carrying the sands to the temple
- The Salee (Bodhi Tree) Parade
